The obvious move for a new tire brand is one product. One compound, one story, one thing to explain. We did not do that, and the reason is money rather than physics.
What a practice day actually is
Most of the rubber you burn in a season is not burned in competition. It goes on practice days, tandem practice, and the sessions before qualifying where you are learning a track rather than trying to win on it.
On those days you do not need peak grip. You need the car to behave the same way for four hours, and you need it not to cost a fortune. That is a completely different brief from the one run that counts.
So we wrote two briefs
VERTEX 300 is the practice tire: harder, longer-wearing, and forgiving across a wider band of surface temperature. It comes up to temperature sooner and it stays consistent for longer, which is what you want when you are working on a transition rather than a result.
VERTEX 200 is the competition tire: softer, with a narrower working window and a shorter life. More grip once it is up to temperature, and less patience with you before it gets there.
Use both, not one
The two are designed to be run together across a season, not chosen between. Practice on the 300, save the 200 for competition, and your cost per weekend drops without your competition pace dropping with it.
Which is why they ship in the same container at no extra charge for splitting the load. Charging a distributor for stocking both halves of one product line would be charging them for using it correctly.
The rulebook caveat
Series differ on treadwear minimums and approved tire lists, and some will not let you run a 200 in a class where others will. Check yours before you buy. Ask us and we will tell you what we know about a given series, but being legal in your class is on you.
